Raising Jumbo Koi in India -How it all began

Well the Koi Hobby in India Has grown by leaps and bounds .

From Indian Carp to the word Koi it been a long journey ....and the information age has helped this a lot .
In raising awareness and sharing the know how .

At least for some us the journey with fish and carp stated here(couldn't find a snap of the Koi ,guess they are long gone )

This picture is of the Malampuzha Aquarium - one of the first aquariums in South India - YOu could walk into the mouth of the fish to see the assorted glass tanks and you still can - But the main attraction was the Koi  !,.The Huge Koi swimming around the the huge fish shaped aquarium . - The pond continuously replenished by the water from the dam and Koi continuously fed popcorn by the non ebbing streams of visitors were huge - You could not help but fall in love .

I guess these were the First Jumbo Koi in India even though nobody new that .

Well in the last couple of years the Koi hobby is booming, Still being a largely unorganized sector we don't have actual facts and figures but Koi sales have exploded over the past couple of years - All Aquariums in India worth their salt stack at least imported Koi from Malaysia to India  (most are bred there some of course are imported via Malaysia from Japan  ) and the better ones actually stock Japanese Koi .

Availability of Koi in India in  the major cities are plentiful and the Nishikigoi in the major southern cities of  Chennai , Bangalore, Hyderabad & Kochi are specially good .

But the question is of quality - you seldom find show quality ...and you also end up paying a bomb for what they have .

Your best choice of getting good quality Koi is always from a dealer or a breeder .
